Alexis Cohen, American Idol Contestant, Killed by Hit-And-Run Driver

Alexis Cohen, the former American Idol contestant known as "Glitter Girl," has been killed. According to My Fox News NY, Alexis Cohen, 25, was found dead Saturday morning at around 4 a.m on a street  in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Two passersby allegedly saw Alexis Cohen's lifeless body lying in the street and called the authorities. The Ocean County prosecutors office believes that Alexis Cohen may have been the victim of a hit-and-run driver.

Alexis Cohen appeared on two seasons of the wildly popular American Idol. Her first appearance aired on January 15, 2008 (season 7) and though the judges were somewhat impressed with her singing ability, they were not impressed enough to send her through to the Hollywood rounds of the competition (they thought she was better suited for heading up a cover band). After being rejected, Alexis Cohen threw something of a hissy fit in the hallway and it ended up being one of the more memorable moments of season 7.

But Alexis Cohen was not deterred. She showed up again on season 8 for another shot. This time, her appearance and manner was more subdued than it had been on season 7. But when she was again rejected by the judges, she summoned her fiery side and, in an act of entertaining defiance, flipped the judges the bird. Once again, Alexis Cohen made a memorable - albeit brief - appearance on America's most popular television show.

The death of Alexis Cohen is certainly not the first tragedy to befall American Idol.

Season 7 American Idol winner David Cook's brother succumbed to brain cancer in May of this year. According to People, Adam Cook had been battling the disease for more than 10 years. Fortunately, Adam Cook got to see his brother perform on the American Idol stage before he passed away. People notes that the judges believe that Adam Cook's presence provided David with the inspiration to win the competition.
